Retelling with Rocket

We read the book How Rocket Learned to Read by Tad Hills.

One of our goals while reading the book was to retell the story.  Part of our retelling focused on how Rocket learned to read.  Here are our notes in a circle map:

We then talked about what we needed to learn how to read.  Was it the same as what Rocket needed? It was!  We realized that we need to read a lot of books, look at the pictures, and sound out the words. We noticed that it's good to reread favorite books, and read a lot of rhyming and predictable books. We can remember words this way.  It's always a good idea to be comfortable and read a just-right book to help us read.  We're on our way with reading!
