Our First Full Week

We have been learning so much this week. We've been learning is how to get along with others. One of the things we've been learning in getting along with others is knowing when it is time to talk and when it's not time to talk. We practiced with mouth and ear cards. When is it time to talk? See if your child can remember these three things: It's time to talk when someone asks you a question. It's time to talk when no one else is talking, and it's time to talk when you have your hand raised and you've been called on. Then we drew pictures of what it means to listen.

We've been learning letter names, sounds, and how to write them. Here are some of the letters we've been focusing on: a, t, b, f, l, h, c, and o. To practice, we say the letter name, the key word, and the sound.

Then we worked on writing a poem together for us all to read. We were inspired by Pete the Cat I Love my White Shoes.

We've learned a lot about reading, too! Here is a video of some of what we've talked about this week.
We practice reading each day!

We've read so many books! I think we've read more books in the past two weeks than I have ever read to a kindergarten class in this amount of time. Here are the books we've read, some of them multiple times!

Then we figured out our favorites. It's probably no surprise that No, David!, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Book Monster, and Chrysanthemum are our class favorites. Which one did your child choose?

It's a great weekend to read a favorite book!
