What did we do this week? What did we learn? Keep reading to find out.
We learned how to read because we were reading the pictures. We read a lot of books. We can't wait to read an Elephant & Piggie book. We listen to a story called Animal Island. We're almost finished with it. Ask your child what was living in the cave. Hint: It starts with the letter m. We read a lot of Goldilocks and the Three Bears books. We learned that even though we might see different books with different pictures, the story pretty much stays the same. That's true for the versions of The Three Billy Goats Gruff, too. And we compared books with the same characters. We're working on retelling and looking at similarities.
We love to listen to books and read them each day!
We have been learning a lot of letter names and sounds, but one day when learning about the letter m, we went around our classroom to find all of the things that begin with m. When we learn new letters, we always find time to practice letters we've already talked about.
When we write in our handwriting books, we work on forming the letters with the right direction, size, and shape. Some shapes look a lot alike, especially in lower case: c, a, o, d, g, and q can all be made with a c.
We went on a number hunt. We were looking for numbers. We learned that numbers are all around.
We were introduced to pattern blocks. One of the things we learned is that we can put two shapes together to make new shapes. Look below at all of the different ways we explored with pattern blocks.
We learned how to count objects by playing Gotcha!, singing songs like The Ants Go Marching, and with reading and acting out books like Mouse Count.
We are working on learning vocabulary, too, like length, same, match, longer, shorter, and manipulatives, which is something we use to show our thinking.
We learned about active listening in both social studies and math. We learned that you listen with your whole body and you only think about what the speaker is saying. We learned how to get along with others by talking, listening, making good choices, and taking turns. We've been learning different ways to take a calming breath. Ask your child to show you pretzel breathing.
