Our Week in Review

We were so busy this week! I feel like I didn't get as many pictures of us in action, and pictures are my favorite part about blog posts. But there are still tons of pictures!

In reading, we worked on rereading to notice more, read more, and think more. We even worked on what the word rereading means. Ask your child about it at home. We worked on rereading by retelling as well. We've been working on sharing our thinking while reading, too. Some of our classmates announced that they were so excited to be able to read that they are going to read as much as they can when they get home. Wow!

We worked hard reading words from left to right, top to bottom, and making sure to read each part. We worked on turn pages and making sure we're not going too fast so that we can pay attention to everything the author wants us to. We worked on sounding like the characters and we worked on thinking about what the page was mostly about.

We continue to work on learning the names and sounds of all of the letters. We've covered 22 letters so we're so close to the end of the alphabet. We've also been working on identifying beginning sounds, rhyming words, words in a sentence. This week was big, too, because we starting working on writing the sounds we hear and reading the words we wrote. Whew!

In math, we've been working on learning the numbers: what the numbers names are, what the numbers look like, and what they mean. For example, we are learning that numbers can look different. For example, we've learned that five can be a set of four and a set of one. We worked on describing shapes, too. Some of the words we've learned are curved, point, and corner.

We've been spending some time learning how to solve problems, especially when we have a problem with other people. Ask your child about what he or she thinks is his or her favorite way to calm down. We've learned that there are a bunch to choose from! Another thing we've been learned is that to solve problems we have to talk and listen. When we talk, we need to say more than just "no" or "stop." We need to say what we like or don't like and give the person an idea of what we would like instead.  Lastly we've learned to take turns talking and listening.

Crazy Hair or Hat Day was a fun way to end the week! Take a look at some of our crazy hair and hats! Here's something else fun to cap off our week. Below are some pictures that your child can caption. Remember, we've been learning that pictures and words have to match.
